Algiers, Algeria | July 17th, 2024 — From July 10 to 16, 2024, detachments of the People’s National Army (ANP) intercepted 16 elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory.
Comprehensive Anti-Terrorism Efforts
In its ongoing fight against terrorism, the ANP successfully apprehended 16 individuals suspected of supporting terrorist activities. This achievement underscores the army’s dedication to maintaining national security and stability.
Significant Drug Seizures
In the realm of combating organized crime, the ANP, in collaboration with various security services, arrested 57 drug traffickers in multiple military regions. These coordinated efforts thwarted attempts to introduce 596 kilograms of processed cannabis from Morocco. Additionally, authorities confiscated 21.6 kilograms of cocaine and 449,727 psychotropic tablets.
Operations Against Illegal Mining and Contraband
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, and In Guezzam, ANP detachments detained 24 individuals and seized an array of items used in illicit gold mining operations. These included:
- 26 vehicles
- 93 generators
- 57 jackhammers
- Raw gold mixtures
- Explosives
- Detonation tools
- Various mining equipment
Crackdown on Illegal Arms and Contraband
Further operations led to the interception of 11 more individuals, and the seizure of:
- 1 Kalashnikov submachine gun
- 4 hunting rifles
- 2 automatic pistols
- 10,874 liters of fuel
- 59 tons of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation
- 104 quintals of tobacco
Preventing Illegal Immigration
The Coast Guard thwarted clandestine emigration attempts by 399 individuals using artisanal boats along the national coasts. Additionally, 433 illegal immigrants of various nationalities were apprehended nationwide.
These operations highlight the ANP’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Algeria from terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal mining, and other forms of organized crime. The effective coordination between the ANP and other security services continues to ensure the country’s security and stability.
