Algiers, Algeria | August 20th, 2024 — On Monday, General Said Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), issued a poignant call to the members of the ANP, urging them to uphold their responsibilities as the worthy heirs of the National Liberation Army (ALN) in preserving the legacy of the chouhada (martyrs) and moudjahidine (freedom fighters).
In a heartfelt message delivered on the occasion of National Moudjahid Day, which commemorates the dual anniversary of the North Constantine Offensive on August 20, 1955, and the Soummam Congress on August 20, 1956, General Chanegriha extended his best wishes to all officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, and civilian personnel of the ANP. He emphasized that fulfilling national duty towards the homeland demands more than just military preparedness and dedication. It requires men who fully recognize the sacrifices of their ancestors and take pride in the glorious history of their nation. “The love of one’s country and the efforts made to elevate its status among the nations of the world represent the highest honor for any individual,” Chanegriha asserted.
He further remarked that this historic date will forever serve as a reminder of the extraordinary achievements of a unique generation in Algeria’s history. For the members of the ANP, the feats of this generation continue to be a source of inspiration, imbuing them with values of patriotism, loyalty, and unwavering dedication to their noble mission. These values, Chanegriha noted, are essential in ensuring the continued independence, security, and development of the nation.
In his address, General Chanegriha reaffirmed the critical role that the ANP plays in safeguarding Algeria’s sovereignty and in carrying forward the legacy of those who fought for its liberation, highlighting that the nation’s future is inextricably linked to the memory and honor of its past struggles.
