Algerian Army Chief Chanegriha Oversees Official Installation of Major-General Necereddine Foudhil as Commander of the 3rd Military Region

Algiers, Algeria | November 21st, 2024 —In a significant move to reinforce Algeria’s military leadership and operational readiness, the Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP) presided over the official installation ceremony of Major-General Necereddine Foudhil as Commander of the 3rd Military Region. The ceremony took place on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the command headquarters in Béchar, marking a pivotal step in advancing the nation’s defense strategy.

According to a communiqué from the Ministry of National Defense, the installation was conducted under the auspices of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense. The transition followed a presidential decree issued on November 12, 2024, with Major-General Foudhil succeeding Major-General Mostefa Smaili.

Honoring Algeria’s Revolutionary Legacy

The ceremony began with a solemn tribute to the revolutionary hero Mustapha Benboulaid, whose name the 3rd Military Region headquarters bears. General of the Army Chanegriha led the observance by laying a wreath and reciting Al-Fatiha in remembrance of the martyred revolutionaries whose sacrifices secured Algeria’s independence.

Following this, General of the Army Chanegriha inspected the assembled personnel before officially announcing the appointment. He emphasized adherence to military regulations, the importance of discipline, and the unwavering commitment to the values of Algeria’s glorious revolution.

A Call for Unity and Military Excellence

In his address, broadcast to all units within the region via videoconference, General of the Army Chanegriha underscored the critical role of discipline, ethical conduct, and national unity in strengthening Algeria’s military capabilities.

“This ceremony coincides with the festive atmosphere of the 70th anniversary of the November 1, 1954, Revolution,” he noted. “It reminds us of the extraordinary sacrifices made by our people, whose bravery and perseverance altered the course of history and culminated in the liberation of our land.”

He called upon military personnel to embody the principles of discipline, mutual effort, and patriotism as cornerstones of a strong and reputable army.

Strengthening Algeria’s Defense Framework

General of the Army Chanegriha reaffirmed the ANP’s status as the steadfast guardian of Algeria’s sovereignty and stability under President Tebboune’s leadership. He expressed hope that the ANP would continue to safeguard national independence and foster progress for the Algerian people.

The event concluded with a formal handover of the national flag, the signing of the transfer-of-command document, and an interactive session where General of the Army Chanegriha listened to the concerns and suggestions of regional commanders and personnel.
