ALGIERS- General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP), was received on Tuesday in Kigali as part of his official visit to the Republic of Rwanda, by Rwandan Minister of Defense, Mr. Juvenal Marizamunda.
According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense (MDN), the two parties discussed the evaluation of the state of military cooperation between the armies of both countries, followed by the exchange of symbolic gifts.
During the discussions, the two senior military officials from both countries presided over talks on military cooperation and the prospects for its enhancement in line with the aspirations of the leaders of both countries and their shared desire to expand coordination in areas of mutual interest.
In remarks during the visit, Chanegriha emphasized that “this visit clearly demonstrates the ambitions of the high authorities of both countries to inject new momentum into the mechanism of military cooperation between the two armies, with a view to addressing the security challenges prevailing on the African continent.”
He further noted that the visit represents “an important step towards consultation between our institutions, which we will embark on together to develop bilateral relations and consolidate military cooperation, in order to elevate it to the level of the aspirations of the leaders of our respective countries.”
Rwandan Army Seeks to Benefit from Algerian Army’s Expertise
In response, General of the Army Moubarakh Muganga praised “the sincere willingness” he observed from the Algerian side to strengthen bilateral military relations, confirming that the ANP is indeed one of the most respected and proficient military forces on our continent and beyond.
General of the Army Moubarakh Muganga also emphasized that “through increasing cooperation in the defense sector, the Rwandan Defense Forces aspire to benefit from the capabilities of the Algerian People’s National Army and to learn from its experience and expertise.”
Earlier on the same day, General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha visited the Genocide Memorial, where he was welcomed by General Patrick Karuretwa, Director of International Cooperation for the Rwandan Defense Forces.
