Algiers, Algeria | January 05th, 2024 — In a series of exceptional operations throughout 2024, the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) successfully neutralized 51 terrorists and 457 individuals supporting terrorist groups, marking a significant achievement in the country’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and organized crime. The operations have resulted in substantial recoveries of weapons, ammunition, and the dismantling of terrorist infrastructure, according to a comprehensive operational report released by the ANP on Saturday.
The statement detailed the substantial efforts undertaken by ANP units, which led to the discovery and destruction of 10 terrorist hideouts and bunkers, further undermining the operational capabilities of extremist groups. These operations are part of the continued, coordinated efforts by the ANP to ensure the country’s safety and stability, in line with the directives of national defense and security, aimed at preserving Algeria’s sovereignty from any threat.
Anti-Terrorism Operations: A Major Blow to Extremist Networks
As part of its sustained anti-terrorism campaign, the ANP recovered 97 firearms, 48 various types of bombs, and significant quantities of ammunition, strengthening its stance in the battle against terrorism. The operations reflect the high professionalism, vigilance, and readiness of the ANP forces deployed across the country, actively working to thwart any attempts to destabilize Algeria’s peace and security.
Fighting Organized Crime and Drug Trafficking
In addition to its counterterrorism efforts, the ANP intensified its fight against organized crime, particularly drug trafficking, which remains a major challenge. The army successfully arrested 2,621 drug traffickers and seized 36.8 tons of processed cannabis, smuggled from neighboring Morocco. The authorities also managed to confiscate 631 kilograms of cocaine and 25 million psychotropic pills, preventing their distribution within the national borders.
Moreover, the ANP’s rigorous operations led to the seizure of 681 firearms and 1,624 vehicles used in criminal activities. Additional materials seized included 5,090 jackhammers, 8,204 generators, 220 metal detectors, 2 million liters of fuel, 193 tons of tobacco, and 4,322 tons of smuggled food items. These efforts showcase the ANP’s unwavering commitment to halting the flow of illicit goods and criminal enterprises within Algeria.
Crackdown on Illegal Immigration
In its ongoing efforts to control illegal immigration, the ANP also apprehended 29,587 illegal immigrants of various nationalities across the country. This action is part of the military’s broader strategy to ensure border security and prevent illegal immigration networks from exploiting Algeria’s borders.
These robust operations not only highlight the effectiveness of the ANP in securing national interests but also send a strong message to both local and international communities that Algeria remains resolute in defending its sovereignty and maintaining internal peace.
