Algiers, Algeria | July 10th, 2024 — In a concerted and determined effort to combat terrorism and organized crime, units and detachments of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) executed a series of successful operations from July 1st to 9th, 2024. These operations underscored the ANP’s exceptional professionalism, vigilance, and unwavering readiness across the national territory, as detailed in an operational report released on Wednesday.
Anti-Terrorism Successes
As part of the ongoing battle against terrorism, ANP detachments achieved notable success in Khenchela by neutralizing two terrorists. The operation, which involved meticulous combing, led to the seizure of two Kalashnikov submachine guns, a substantial amount of ammunition, and various other items, highlighting the precision and effectiveness of the ANP’s efforts. In addition to this, seven individuals providing support to terrorist groups were apprehended during distinct operations conducted nationwide. Furthermore, in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, a MAT-49 submachine gun and two mortar shells were confiscated, demonstrating the ANP’s comprehensive approach to dismantling terrorist networks and disrupting their activities.
Substantial Drug Seizures and Anti-Smuggling Efforts
In its relentless pursuit of justice and security, the ANP continued its vigorous campaign against organized crime. Collaborating closely with various security services, combined detachments of the ANP executed numerous operations across military regions, effectively thwarting drug trafficking attempts. These operations resulted in the interception of 63 drug traffickers and the seizure of 17 quintals and 66 kilograms of processed kif originating from the Moroccan border. In addition, authorities confiscated 45.5 kilograms of cocaine and 941,112 psychotropic tablets, underscoring the ongoing struggle against narcotrafficking that poses a significant threat to the nation’s security.
Moreover, ANP detachments in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, and In Salah conducted extensive operations, leading to the detention of 150 individuals involved in various illegal activities. During these operations, 37 vehicles, 185 generators, 71 jackhammers, three metal detectors, and substantial quantities of raw gold, stones, explosives, and illicit gold mining equipment were confiscated. In separate operations, 26 individuals were intercepted, and authorities seized two Kalashnikov submachine guns, nine hunting rifles, five automatic pistols, 41,211 liters of fuel, 118 tons of smuggled foodstuffs, and 224.5 quintals of tobacco. These efforts highlight the ANP’s commitment to curbing smuggling activities and securing the nation’s borders.
Efforts Against Illegal Immigration
In addition to their anti-terrorism and anti-smuggling efforts, ANP coastguard units played a crucial role in thwarting illegal immigration attempts. They successfully intercepted 187 individuals attempting to emigrate illegally using artisanal boats along the national coastline. Furthermore, 392 illegal immigrants of various nationalities were arrested across the country, reflecting the ANP’s dedication to maintaining national security and public order.
These operations underscore the ANP’s multifaceted approach to ensuring national security. The successful neutralization of terrorists, substantial drug seizures, and thwarted illegal immigration attempts are a testament to the ANP’s comprehensive strategy and effective coordination with other security services. The ANP remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding Algeria’s security, showcasing its readiness to tackle various threats and maintain public order. Through these sustained efforts, the ANP continues to reinforce the safety and stability of the nation, demonstrating an unwavering resolve to protect its citizens and territory.
