Algerian Army: Surrender of Terrorist in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Arrest of 10 Terrorist Support Elements in One Week

ALGIERS- The Algerian Ministry of National Defense (MDN) has reported that a terrorist surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, possessing a Kalashnikov submachine gun and ammunition. Additionally, 10 individuals providing support to terrorist groups were arrested by detachments of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) in separate operations across the country during the period of April 10 to 17, 2024.

The MDN’s operational report, released on Thursday, highlights the effectiveness of ongoing efforts in counterterrorism and combating various forms of organized crime. It underscores the high professionalism, vigilance, and continuous readiness of the Algerian Armed Forces throughout the national territory.

In the realm of counterterrorism, the surrendered terrorist, known as “A. Aïssa” alias “Abou Youcef,” turned himself in to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, 6th Military Region, with a Kalashnikov submachine gun, ammunition, and other items in his possession. Concurrently, ANP detachments arrested 10 individuals providing support to terrorist groups in separate operations nationwide.

In the fight against organized crime, ANP detachments, in collaboration with various security services, intercepted 39 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 109 kilograms of processed cannabis originating from the borders with Morocco. Additionally, 562 grams of cocaine and 129,026 psychotropic tablets were seized.

In Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, and Tindouf, ANP detachments arrested 101 individuals and seized 26 vehicles, 46 power generators, 46 jackhammers, 11 metal detectors, 8 quintals of a mixture of stones and raw gold, as well as quantities of explosives, detonation tools, and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations.

Furthermore, 14 individuals were intercepted, and 5 hunting rifles, 5 automatic pistols, 36,744 liters of fuel, and 14 quintals of tobacco were seized in separate operations nationwide.

Additionally, the Coast Guard successfully prevented 108 individuals from engaging in clandestine migration attempts aboard makeshift vessels along the national coasts. Moreover, 351 undocumented immigrants of various nationalities were apprehended across the national territory.

The comprehensive efforts of the Algerian military, as demonstrated in these operations, underscore the nation’s commitment to maintaining security and stability while combating terrorism and organized crime.
