Algerian army: Transnational criminal gang dismantled in Tamanrasset

ALGIERS-  The security services of the People’s National Army (ANP) arrested, during this week, in Tamanrasset, in the 6th Military Region, a transnational criminal gang, indicated, Tuesday, a press release from the Ministry of National Defense.

“As part of the fight against organized crime with the aim to secure national borders, the security services of the People’s National Army arrested, during this week, in Tamanrasset in the 6th Military Region, a transnational criminal gang “, according to the same source.

This operation “which follows the efficient exploitation of information, resulted in the dismantlement of this band, made up of (08) criminals who sowed terror and fear within the population using weapons. In addition, three (03) Kalashnikov-type submachine guns, one (01) automatic pistol and one (01) all-terrain vehicle were recovered during this operation,” the statement noted.

“The arrested criminals were brought before the public prosecutor at the Tamanrasset tribunal who ordered them to be remanded in custody for the charges: forming a criminal band, possession and use of weapons and ammunition without authorization and the crime of theft while using weapons”, the same source added.

This quality operation reiterates “the determination of units of the People’s National Army engaged throughout the national territory for the protection of citizens by defeating any attempt to undermine the country’s security”, the statement concluded.
