Swift Action by National Gendarmerie Leads to Apprehension; Investigation into Misinformation Campaign Ongoing

Algiers, Algeria | April 26th, 2025 —  The National Gendarmerie has successfully apprehended the individual responsible for circulating a video on social media platforms alleging the death of three imported livestock heads, in an incident that raised widespread public concern.

According to information released by the Algerian Press Service (APS), specialized units from the Research and Investigation Department of the National Gendarmerie (SRGN) in Bir Mourad Raïs managed to identify and detain the suspect in record time. Authorities confirmed that a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the dissemination of the misleading content remains actively underway.

The incident comes at a particularly sensitive time, as Algeria is managing the importation and distribution of thousands of heads of livestock to meet the high demand during the Eid al-Adha season. In this context, the spread of unverified or false information has the potential to sow confusion and distrust among citizens, disrupt public order, and undermine ongoing national efforts to secure a stable market supply.
