ALGIERS- Fortune Zephania Charumbira, President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), has announced the appointment of Algerian Behdja Lammali as the Pan-African Ambassador for Peace and Security, effective immediately.
In a letter of appointment, Charumbira stated, “I have the honor to inform you of your appointment as the Pan-African Ambassador for Peace and Security of the PAP with immediate effect.”
Recognizing Lammali’s unwavering commitment to peace and conflict resolution, Charumbira expressed hope that she would leverage her role as PAP ambassador to advocate for peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity in Africa as a whole, and particularly in the conflict in the Middle East.
“As a recognized leader in peace with an unwavering passion for conflict resolution, we hope that you will leverage your role as a PAP ambassador to advocate for peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity in Africa as a whole, and in the Middle East conflict in particular,” Charumbira stated.
Acknowledging the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region, Charumbira emphasized the importance of speaking out against injustice and human rights violations. He called upon Lammali to be a voice for the voiceless in situations where the use of force overrides morality, particularly in the plight of the Palestinian people.
“Indeed, the continental Parliament cannot remain silent while the Palestinian people are massacred and subjected to terrible human rights violations. Therefore, we rely on you to be the voice of the voiceless in situations where the power of arms, rather than morality, seems to determine the fate of people,” Charumbira concluded in the letter.
