ALGIERS- A memorandum of understanding was signed between Sonatrach and WEG S.A., a Brazilian company, with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the two entities. The signing took place at the headquarters of the general management of the oil group and was attended by Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Energy and Mines; Toufik Hakkar, Chairman and CEO of Sonatrach; His Excellency the Brazilian Ambassador to Algeria, Flavio Marega; and the signatories, Mohamed Slimani, Vice President of the exploration and production activity of Sonatrach; and Harry Schmelzer Jr., Chairman and CEO of the WEG S.A. Group.
This cooperation is set to promote the exchange of expertise and experience with a view to improving the performance and technological mastery of Sonatrach facilities through a mutually beneficial partnership. The establishment of this Memorandum of Understanding with WEG S.A., one of the largest suppliers of electric motors in the world, is part of Sonatrach’ strategy for the development and modernization of its facilities. The identification of the best technologies to improve the energy efficiency of Sonatrach facilities and the digitization and maintenance of electrical equipment are key objectives of this partnership.
Through this collaboration, Sonatrach aims to fulfill its commitment to promoting local content and national integration by contributing to the development of national technological capacities in its businesses through partnerships with foreign entities. In this regard, Sonatrach has partnered with WEG S.A to evaluate the economic feasibility of constructing a WEG manufacturing and maintenance facility in Algeria. Additionally, the two companies will explore the possibility of establishing a partnership with the Sonatrach training institute to provide advanced training and certification, as well as organize workshops and meetings of specialists to share best practices in technological monitoring and updating of electrical equipment standards.
