ALGIERS- In the midst of his working visit to the United Kingdom, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, actively participated in a crucial consultative meeting on the Security Council. The meeting, held Tuesday evening, brought together prominent figures from the United Kingdom, African nations presently serving on the Security Council, as well as those set to join starting January 1.

During the meeting, Minister Ahmed Attaf delivered a comprehensive speech, shedding light on the global context surrounding Algeria’s imminent membership in the Security Council. He articulated the key priorities that Algeria aims to emphasize during its forthcoming mandate, with a particular focus on issues pertaining to the Arab world and the African continent.

The minister’s address underscored Algeria’s commitment to contributing significantly to the collective effort in maintaining international peace and security. He specifically emphasized the importance of addressing conflicts and crises in both the African and Arab regions. Algeria’s accession to the Security Council comes at a crucial time, considering the numerous armed conflicts and multidimensional crises affecting the African continent, especially in the Sahel region.

As Algeria prepares to join the Security Council, Minister Attaf expressed the nation’s dedication to bringing forth fresh perspectives and constructive contributions to tackle the pressing issues on the international agenda. The consultative meeting served as a platform to align Algeria’s objectives with the broader vision of the Security Council.

Additionally, Minister Ahmed Attaf engaged in diplomatic discussions during a meeting with the British Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Lord Tariq Ahmad, in London on Wednesday. The talks primarily centered on preparations for the upcoming second Algerian-British strategic dialogue summit.

The two diplomats explored various facets of bilateral relations, delving into areas of mutual interest and concern. The discussions encapsulated not only the diplomatic ties between Algeria and the United Kingdom but also encompassed broader regional issues that hold significance for both nations.

This visit by the Head of National Diplomacy aligns with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and reflects Algeria’s commitment to fostering international cooperation and addressing shared challenges on the global stage. Minister Attaf’s engagement in these high-profile meetings underlines Algeria’s proactive role in shaping diplomatic dialogues and contributing meaningfully to international discourse.
