Algiers, Algeria | June 29th, 2024 — The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has officially announced that the 57th edition of the Algerian Cup final, scheduled for Friday, July 5, 2024, between MC Alger and CR Belouizdad, will feature Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology. The match will take place at the Olympic Stadium on July 5, 1962, at 17:00.

“An explanatory circular has been sent to the finalist clubs to help them adequately prepare for this event. A technical meeting involving all stakeholders was held at the FAF headquarters on Wednesday. The final will be played with VAR,” the FAF stated on its official website.

During a meeting of the FAF’s Federal Bureau, expanded to include national leagues and held under the chairmanship of FAF President Walid Sadi at the National Technical Center (CTN) in Sidi Moussa, Lahcene Tombouctou, President of the Algerian Cup Commission, presented a report on the final preparations for the “Dame Coupe.”

“The Federal Bureau wishes the best of success to the finalists of this important national competition and calls on supporters to use this sporting event to honor the memory of the former glories of both teams, who have upheld the values of sport and fair play,” concluded the FAF.

Road to the Final

MC Alger (Mouloudia) secured their place in the final for the tenth time in their history by defeating CS Constantine 2-1 after extra time in the semi-finals. CR Belouizdad (Chabab), the runner-up in the last edition won by ASO Chlef (1-2 after extra time), advanced by overcoming USM Alger in a penalty shootout (0-0, 3-1 on penalties).

The “Doyen,” having recently clinched their eighth Algerian championship title, is aiming for a historic double. Meanwhile, Chabab, the vice-champion, hopes to salvage their season by capturing the Algerian Cup. Both clubs have won the cup eight times each, alongside USM Alger and ES Sétif.

The inclusion of VAR in the final is a significant step forward for Algerian football, ensuring a fair and transparent competition. The FAF’s commitment to modernizing the sport and providing the best possible conditions for the players and fans alike is evident in this decision. Fans can look forward to a thrilling and well-regulated final as MCA and CRB vie for the coveted trophy.
