DGD Reaffirms Existing Regulations Amid Misleading Reports on Vehicle and Baggage Entry Rules
Algiers, Algeria | February 22nd, 2025 — The Directorate General of Customs (DGD) issued a statement on Saturday, providing crucial clarifications regarding customs procedures applicable to travelers entering and exiting Algeria. The clarification comes in response to recent online reports suggesting the implementation of new measures for vehicle entry and baggage transport on a specific maritime route.
According to the DGD, the existing customs procedures are uniformly enforced across all modes of travel, encompassing maritime, land, and air routes. The objective is to uphold the rule of law, prevent ambiguities, and avert potential infractions at national borders.
Reinforcing Established Procedures, Not Introducing New Measures
In light of the recent dissemination of misleading information regarding purportedly new customs measures, the DGD categorically refuted such claims, stating: “These measures are not new but rather a reaffirmation of longstanding regulations. They are designed to ensure strict adherence to Algerian customs laws and regulations, thereby mitigating any risks of infractions or misunderstandings during border crossings.”
The customs authority emphasized that these measures are not confined to a single maritime line but apply comprehensively to all travel routes, whether by sea, land, or air. This clarification underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining regulatory consistency and preventing unlawful practices at entry and exit points.
Regulating the Movement of People and Goods Within Legal Frameworks
The DGD reiterated that these measures are instrumental in organizing and regulating the flow of people and goods through Algeria’s borders. “The enforcement of customs regulations is crucial in preventing illegal transportation of goods, smuggling, and any form of non-compliance with national laws,” the statement added.
Furthermore, the DGD urged all travelers and citizens to rely exclusively on official sources for accurate customs-related information. To prevent misinformation and unnecessary confusion, Algerian Customs encouraged the public to verify details through the following official communication channels:

- Toll-Free Number: 1023
