Algiers, Algeria | June 12th, 2024 — The Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts and various tourism stakeholders, launched a special initiative in Algiers on Monday aimed at promoting Algeria as a tourist destination for the summer season of 2024. The initiative offers competitive packages to Algerian families, members of the national community living abroad, and international tourists.

The initiative was formalized through a cooperation agreement signed by Kamel Moula, President of CREA; Saliha Nacer Bey, Director General of the National Tourism Office (ONT); Taher Arezki, Director General of the Algerian National Tourism Office (ONAT); Amar Guellati, CEO of the Hospitality, Tourism, and Spa Group “HTT”; Ismail Chaalal, CEO of the Hotel Investment Company (SIH); and Adel Henouda, Secretary General of the National Federation of Hotel and Tourism (FNHT). The signing ceremony, attended by Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts Mokhtar Didouche and Minister of Communication Mohamed Laagab, marks a milestone in boosting Algeria’s tourism sector.

Minister Didouche emphasized the significance of this initiative, stressing the need for concerted efforts to ensure its success. He highlighted Algeria’s growing popularity as a tourist destination, citing national tourism indicators and an influx of foreign tourists.

In line with the initiative, Minister Didouche announced the allocation of land in Tourist Expansion Zones (ZET) to develop seasonal tourist facilities, aimed at increasing accommodation capacity in tourist areas.

President Moula underscored that the agreement followed extensive consultations with key tourism sector stakeholders. He expressed the initiative’s goal to preserve the purchasing power of Algerian families by offering attractive hotel rates, while encouraging exploration of Algeria’s rich tourist heritage by national and international visitors.

The initiative covers 1,600 hotels, tourist groups, and entertainment venues, with participation open to all tourism sector stakeholders. President Moula affirmed that collective efforts could transform Algeria into a premier tourist destination.

Saliha Nacer Bey announced updates to the ONT portal (Visit Algeria), facilitating easy access to promotional offers and tourist circuits. She highlighted that this initiative would usher in a new approach to organizing summer seasons.

Amar Guellati outlined measures by the HTT Group, including free access to beaches adjacent to group-owned establishments, reduced tariffs, and limiting reservation durations to a maximum of 10 days to prevent monopolization.

Ismail Chaalal announced that SIH had established 40 retail outlets across its properties, offering a wide range of hospitality, dining, and cultural activities, with enticing offers available on the ONAT platform.

Taher Arezki detailed ONAT’s tailored offers and programs for coastal tourist regions, along with subsidized bus services ferrying vacationers to and from beaches at nominal fares.

Adel Henouda expressed confidence that the initiative would inject new dynamism into the tourism sector, affirming FNHT’s commitment to its success.

Promotional offers from hotels and tourist groups can be accessed through the ONAT portal, which will be regularly updated in the coming days, as announced during the signing ceremony.

This collaborative effort aims to rejuvenate Algeria’s tourism landscape, making it more accessible and attractive to both domestic and international tourists, while bolstering economic growth and cultural exchange opportunities.
