Algiers, Algeria | July 12th, 2024 — The Algerian Embassy in France marked the 62nd anniversary of Algeria’s independence with a solemn and heartfelt ceremony. This event served as a profound moment of fraternity and reflection, honoring the valiant Chouhada who fought for Algeria’s freedom.
During the reception, Ambassador Saïd Moussi delivered a poignant speech, paying tribute to the generations of Algerians who demonstrated immense sacrifice and courage throughout the 132 years of colonization. He especially honored the brave men and women who heeded the call on November 1, 1954, marking the beginning of the Algerian revolution.
Acknowledging National Progress
Ambassador Moussi also took the opportunity to highlight the significant advancements Algeria has achieved under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He emphasized the ongoing efforts to build a new Algeria, reflecting the nation’s commitment to progress and development.
Among the key achievements mentioned were the various measures implemented for the benefit of the Algerian community abroad. These include the facilitation of the repatriation of deceased Algerians, the integration of Algerian expatriates into the national pension system, enhanced travel provisions to Algeria, and their representation in the High Council of Youth and the National Observatory of Civil Society.
Reaffirming Support for Palestine and Western Sahara
Ambassador Moussi reiterated Algeria’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, advocating for the establishment of a Palestinian state with El-Qods as its capital. He condemned the heinous massacres against the unarmed Palestinian population and reaffirmed Algeria’s solidarity with their struggle.
Additionally, he reiterated Algeria’s unwavering support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and sovereignty, in accordance with United Nations resolutions. This stance underscores Algeria’s commitment to international justice and the rights of oppressed peoples.
The ceremony at the Algerian Embassy in Paris was a solemn reminder of the country’s historical sacrifices and a celebration of its ongoing journey towards a brighter future. The event underscored the unity and resilience of the Algerian people, both at home and abroad, as they continue to honor their past while striving towards national development and global solidarity.
