Algiers, Algeria | July 12th, 2024 — The Algerian Embassy in Moscow hosted a solemn ceremony to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of Algeria’s independence, drawing a significant gathering of Algerian community members residing in Russia.

Tribute to National Sacrifices

Ambassador Boumédiène Guennad presided over the ceremony at the embassy headquarters, marking July 5, 1962, as a historic milestone in Algeria’s recovery of national sovereignty. In his address, Ambassador Guennad solemnly reflected on the immense sacrifices made by the Algerian people during their 132 years of struggle against French occupation. He paid tribute to the Chouhada (martyrs) who gave their lives for Algeria’s freedom, acknowledging their enduring legacy in securing independence.

Reflection on Algerian Resilience

The ambassador emphasized the resilience and bravery of the Algerian people in their steadfast resistance against overwhelming military superiority. He recounted the harsh realities of French occupation, including brutal scorched-earth policies imposed on Algerian cities and villages, underscoring the determination of the Algerian populace to reclaim their sovereignty and dignity.

Cultural and Community Celebrations

Alongside the solemn remembrance, children from the Algerian community in Moscow participated in a spirited football match, symbolizing unity and sportsmanship among the youth. Dressed in national colors, the children performed patriotic songs and recited poems that glorified the Algerian Revolution and expressed deep affection for their homeland.
