Algiers, Algeria | May 17, 2024 — Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, is taking an active role in the third International Forum “Towards the South: The European Strategy for a New Geopolitical, Economic, and Socio-Cultural Era in the Mediterranean Region,” which began on Friday in Sorrento, Italy.

A ministry statement confirmed that Arkab is participating in this important event, held on May 17 and 18, at the invitation of the “European House – Ambrosetti” Foundation, chaired by Mr. Valerio De Moli.

The forum boasts a diverse and influential lineup of attendees, including high-profile ministers such as the Minister for Southern European Affairs, Cohesion Policies, and the National Repatriation Program for Refugees, Mr. Rafael Vito, and the Minister of the Sea and Civil Protection, Mr. Nello Mozomici. Additionally, the event brings together numerous leaders from Italian and international companies, politicians, economists, and intellectuals, particularly from the Mediterranean region.

The forum’s goal is to provide a platform for dialogue and consultation on the growth prospects for Southern Italy and Mediterranean nations. It aims to foster public-private partnerships at both national and international levels, bringing together leading private and institutional actors along with representatives from academia and research within the Mediterranean under the Think Tank initiative.

Key topics to be discussed include the current geopolitical climate and its economic and social consequences, food security challenges, and the new energy vision for the South, with a focus on the Mediterranean region and Italy.

Minister Arkab is set to contribute to a session titled “A New Energy Vision for the South,” which will explore innovative energy strategies and their potential impact on regional development.

Overall, the forum serves as a vital opportunity for stakeholders to engage in discussions and collaborate on strategies to enhance the geopolitical, economic, and socio-cultural landscape of the Mediterranean region.
