Algiers, Algeria | January 07th, 2024 — In a significant diplomatic engagement, Selma Bakhta Mansouri, Secretary of State, arrived in the Gambian capital on Tuesday, where she personally delivered a letter from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to his Gambian counterpart, President Adama Barrow. This initiative, announced in a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, underscores Algeria’s commitment to strengthening its strategic ties with Gambia and the African continent as a whole.

During the meeting, Mansouri conveyed President Tebboune’s fraternal greetings and reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering resolve to work closely with Gambia to enhance bilateral cooperation. She emphasized Algeria’s dedication to deepening partnerships rooted in mutual respect and shared African solidarity.

In response, President Barrow welcomed the positive trajectory of relations between the two nations, commending Algeria’s influential role on the continental stage. He particularly highlighted Algeria’s leadership during its current rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), where the North African nation has been a vocal advocate for African causes, including the preservation of peace, regional security, and the fight against terrorism.

The diplomatic exchange also served as an opportunity to conduct a comprehensive review of existing bilateral relations, focusing on strategies to further elevate collaboration across key sectors. Both sides explored avenues to bolster economic, security, and cultural cooperation, reaffirming their shared commitment to African unity and sustainable development.

This high-level engagement reflects Algeria’s proactive foreign policy under President Tebboune, emphasizing diplomatic outreach and regional leadership in pursuit of a more secure and prosperous Africa.
