Algiers, Algeria | June 30th, 2024 — The Secretary-General of the Algerian National Farmers’ Union, Abdellatif Dilmi, has expressed strong support for President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s candidacy in the upcoming presidential elections.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Provincial Forum for Agricultural Development held in Boumerdès, Dilmi emphasized the significant role President Tebboune has played in supporting the agricultural sector and farmers. “President Tebboune has stood with the agricultural sector and farmers in the recent past. It is now our duty to support him in this electoral endeavor to continue the path of development and lead Algeria to safety,” he stated.
Highlighting Agricultural Achievements and Support
Dilmi praised the “great efforts” made by the farming community and producers in enhancing national production and increasing yields, especially in the grain and major crops sectors. He highlighted that these positive outcomes have been achieved thanks to the state’s support and the provision of necessary assistance. Dilmi called on everyone to “work towards maintaining these gains and achieving self-sufficiency, as the agricultural sector is a beacon for safeguarding national sovereignty.”
He also detailed the critical role the agricultural sector holds in Algeria, noting various national programs and plans aimed at improving the national output across all productive branches, with a particular focus on grains and major crops, which are strategic for achieving self-sufficiency and food security.
Importance of Agricultural Statistics and Modernization
Dilmi underscored the importance of agricultural statistics for the development and modernization of the sector. He remarked, “All these positive results have been due to the policy of support and accompaniment that farmers and producers have received, along with the provision of necessary resources. We hope that this work will continue and that more attention will be given to the interests and concerns of farmers.”
Path Towards Development and Modernization
He continued, “The agricultural sector in our country is paving its way towards development and modernization of production means to improve yields through science and following technical paths in all branches. This renewed focus on this vital economic resource aims to achieve food security after several experiences and transformations with varying results over different periods. The outcome is what has been achieved this season during the harvest and threshing campaign in the vast southern regions and across other provinces despite natural difficulties and challenges.”
The call from the Algerian National Farmers’ Union for President Tebboune to run for a second term reflects the confidence and trust that the agricultural community has in his leadership.
