Algiers, Algeria | June 4th, 2024 — Charged by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf took part in the Korea-Africa Summit, which kicked off on Tuesday in Seoul, South Korea. This event marks the first summit-level meeting between African states and the Republic of Korea, focusing on strengthening partnerships across various domains over two days.
In his address at the summit, Attaf emphasized Algeria’s aspiration for a high-level Africa-Korea partnership that delivers qualitative added value. He underscored the necessity for this partnership to transcend the limited donor-recipient dynamic and address the continent’s priorities, ensuring equity among all Africans.
Attaf praised the level of coordination between the African bloc at the United Nations Security Council, known as the A3 group, and the Republic of Korea. He commended South Korea for its support and vote in favor of granting full membership to Palestine at the UN. Building on this stance, Attaf expressed hope that South Korea would officially recognize the State of Palestine.
On the economic front, Attaf welcomed South Korea’s initiatives and cooperation offers to strengthen the partnership with Africa in seven key areas. He noted that these areas align perfectly with the priorities outlined in the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Attaf also appreciated the concrete measures announced by South Korea to boost Korean investments in Africa and increase development aid to African countries.
Concluding his speech, the Foreign Minister affirmed that Algeria, bound to South Korea by a strategic bilateral partnership, will spare no effort in contributing to the implementation of the various programs and activities adopted by the summit. These efforts aim to serve the overarching goals of peace, security, and development across Africa.
