Algerian FM Attaf Continues His African Tour with a Visit to Ethiopia

Algiers, Algeria | December 15th, 2024 —  Ahmad Attaf, Algeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, is continuing his African diplomatic tour with a significant visit to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, following stops in Burundi, Uganda, and Angola. The visit, which began on Sunday evening, is part of a broader strategy to enhance Algeria’s engagement with African nations and reaffirm its commitment to regional cooperation.

Attaf, who is also a special envoy of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, was welcomed in Ethiopia as part of efforts to foster stronger bilateral relations between the two countries. According to a statement released by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit’s primary objective is to “reinforce the traditions of consultation and coordination between the two sister nations and elevate their bilateral relations to the highest possible level.”

During his stay in Addis Ababa, Minister Attaf is expected to meet with several key Ethiopian officials, including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, to deliver a written message from President Tebboune. He will also be received by Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde and engage in talks with Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedu Andargachew.

This trip is part of a larger diplomatic initiative that reflects Algeria’s active role in strengthening its relationships across Africa. Attaf’s previous stops in Burundi, Uganda, and Angola have also centered on delivering official messages from President Tebboune and discussing matters of mutual interest, including economic cooperation and political alignment on regional issues.

Algeria’s continued efforts to build strong ties with African countries are seen as pivotal in reinforcing its position as a leading player on the continent, especially in the face of global geopolitical challenges.
