Algerian FM Attaf Holds Talks with Burundian Counterpart: Strengthening Bilateral Ties, Addressing Key Regional Issues

Algiers, Algeria | December 12th, 2024 — On Thursday, in Bujumbura, Ahmad Attaf, Algeria’s Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, engaged in a bilateral dialogue with Albert Shingiro, the Burundian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation. The meeting, which began with a private one-on-one session, was followed by a broad working session that involved delegations from both nations.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that the discussions centered on reviewing the current state and future prospects of the relations between Algeria and Burundi. The ministers agreed on a series of concrete measures aimed at furthering bilateral cooperation. They emphasized the need to enrich and update the legal framework that governs their ties, activate institutional cooperation mechanisms, and prioritize key sectors that align with the respective capacities and developmental aspirations of the two nations.

During the talks, Attaf and Shingiro exchanged insights and analyses on various continental issues, providing an in-depth look into both countries’ positions on pressing African matters. The discussions underscored Algeria’s commitment to strengthening its partnerships across Africa, with a particular focus on fostering economic growth and sustainable development through increased cooperation with Burundi.

As a result of this meeting, both sides expressed their readiness to implement the agreed-upon measures in a timely and effective manner, with the goal of building a robust partnership that serves the mutual interests of both Algeria and Burundi.
