ALGIERS- Ahmed Attaf, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Algerian Community Abroad, engaged in bilateral discussions with counterparts from Lebanon, Sudan, Mauritania, Azerbaijan, and Somalia in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday. These meetings were held on the sidelines of his participation in the 3rd session of the Arab Economic and Cooperation Forum with Central Asian Countries and Azerbaijan, as stated in a press release from the ministry.

The purpose of these discussions was to “review the relations between Algeria and these sisterly and friendly countries, as well as matters of common interest at both regional and international levels,” the statement said.

During the meeting with the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Abdallah Bouhabib, both parties examined “the developments of the Israeli aggression against Gaza and its repercussions on the entire Middle East region,” the statement noted.

With the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan, Hussein Awad, discussions focused on “implementing the conclusions of important discussions held between the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and his brother, President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, during his visit to Algeria last January, as well as developments in the situation in the Republic of Sudan and diplomatic efforts to promote a political solution to the crisis in this sisterly country.”

Mr. Attaf and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Djeyhoun Bayramov, “exchanged views on upcoming energy milestones, in the context of the conclusions of the 7th summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), held recently in Algiers, and in anticipation of Azerbaijan hosting the International Conference on Climate Change (COP29) in November,” according to the statement.

Discussions between Mr. Attaf and his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, focused on the “privileged relations between the two sisterly countries, as well as the latest developments in the Sahel-Saharan region.”

Additionally, Mr. Attaf addressed with his Somali counterpart, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, “the prospects for strengthening bilateral relations and promoting bilateral political consultation on the situation in their respective regions,” the statement concluded.
