Algerian FM Attaf Meets French Presidential Envoy Paul Solar to Discuss Libya

Algiers, Algeria | May 19, 2024 — On Sunday evening, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf hosted a meeting with Paul Solar, the Special Envoy of the French President for Libya. The encounter, as outlined in a communiqué from the ministry, provided an opportunity for both officials to discuss the evolving situation in Libya, focusing on identifying potential political solutions to the crises that threaten peace and stability in the region, with a pronounced emphasis on avoiding tensions and external interferences.

Minister Attaf and Special Envoy Solar emphasized the necessity of collaborative efforts to address the multifaceted complexities of the Libyan crisis. They deliberated on various approaches to devising and implementing political solutions that could lead to sustainable peace in the region.

Both representatives reaffirmed their shared commitment to supporting the Libyan people in their quest for stability and prosperity. They stressed the importance of a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned process for resolving the conflict, ensuring that any solution is inclusive and respects Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Minister Attaf reiterated Algeria’s steadfast stance on promoting peace and stability in the region through diplomatic means. He underscored Algeria’s long-standing policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations and its commitment to supporting political dialogue and reconciliation efforts.

Special Envoy Solar expressed France’s gratitude for Algeria’s role in fostering dialogue and its contributions to regional stability. He highlighted the significance of ongoing cooperation between Algeria and France in addressing the challenges posed by the Libyan crisis and other regional issues.
