Algerian FM Attaf meets with Mauritanian Premier Ould Bilal Messaoud

ALGIERS- Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, on a working visit to Mauritania, was received, on Tuesday in Nouakchott, by Mauritanian Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Bilal Messaoud.

On this occasion, Mr. Attaf transmitted, according to a press release from the ministry, to the Mauritanian Prime Minister “the greetings of his Algerian counterpart, Aïmene Benabderrahmane, while discussing means of preserving and strengthening the dynamics marking the relations of cooperation between the two countries, as a prelude to the next stages of bilateral cooperation”.

It was also mentioned during this same meeting, the follow-up of the implementation of the outcomes of the 19th session of the Algerian-Mauritanian Great Joint Commission on Cooperation held last September in Nouakchott, “in particular the intensification of bilateral cooperation in the socio-economic, cultural and scientific fields, and the need to work to mobilize the human and material resources necessary to accelerate the realization of joint projects between the two sisterly countries”, according to the same source.

The two parties also discussed the preparations for the next bilateral meetings, in particular the meeting of the Follow-up Committee and the holding of the 20th session of the Great Joint Commission scheduled for Algiers, concluded the same source.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf began on Monday, as special envoy of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, a working visit to Nouakchott (Mauritania), as part of the framework of the strengthening of the relations of brotherhood, cooperation and coordination between the two countries.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the one-on-one talks held by Ahmed Attaf with his Mauritanian counterpart were extended to delegations from the two countries.

The two ministers also addressed issues of common interest at the Maghreb and Arab levels. In addition to the latest developments in the Sahel, Sahara region and the continental level in general.

In this sense, they stressed the importance of strengthening the consensus in the positions of the two countries with a view to confronting various common threats and fighting for peace in order to contribute effectively to the promotion of the objectives of peace, security and development at the regional, continental and international levels.

At the end of the bilateral talks, the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding on political consultations aimed at establishing “a lasting mechanism for strengthening political coordination between the two brotherly countries”.
