Algerian FM Attaf Received in Seoul by Eritrean President

Algiers, Algeria | June 4th, 2024 — In Seoul, on the sidelines of the Korea-Africa Summit, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf met with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki on Tuesday.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, “During his participation in the Korea-Africa Summit, on its first day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, was received by the President of Eritrea, Mr. Isaias Afwerki.”

Review of Bilateral Relations and Continental Security and Political Developments

President Afwerki entrusted Mr. Attaf with the task of “conveying his greetings and highest regards to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, along with his aspiration to collaborate in strengthening cooperation between the two nations and enhancing bilateral coordination on issues of mutual interest at regional and continental levels,” the statement detailed.

During their discussion, both parties examined “the prospects of bilateral relations and developments in the security and political landscape at the continental level. They also deliberated on the role of African common action mechanisms in confronting the severe crisis currently affecting international relations,” as noted by the same source.
