ALGIERS- Less than three weeks before the BRICS Summit, scheduled in South Africa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, took significant steps towards bolstering Algeria’s candidacy for membership in the influential BRICS group. On Sunday, diplomatic representatives from the five member states of BRICS paid a visit to Algeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, further solidifying the country’s commitment to joining the prominent economic alliance.

Representatives from China, Russia, India, and the charge d’affaires from the embassies of Brazil and South Africa in Algeria were warmly received by Minister Attaf on behalf of President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that these meetings were instrumental in garnering greater support for Algeria’s candidacy in BRICS.

During the meetings, Minister Attaf emphasized Algeria’s candidacy, underscoring the principles and values that underpin the country’s foreign policy. Minister Ahmed Attaf proudly pointed out Algeria’s history of advocating for the same principles and values on which the BRICS organization was founded. He also highlighted the country’s economic dynamism, which has been bolstered by reforms initiated by the President of the Republic, leading to notable positive development indicators in recent years.

Algeria aspires to make a meaningful and qualitative contribution to the activities of the BRICS group. The country envisions serving the objectives of peace, security, regional and international development, and prosperity. As Algeria prepares to join the BRICS ranks, it aims to collaborate with the existing members to enhance economic cooperation, foster innovation, and address global challenges.

The BRICS group, composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, represents a substantial portion of the world’s population, landmass, and economic output. The alliance plays a pivotal role in shaping the global economy and influencing international policies. Algeria’s potential inclusion in BRICS is viewed as a strategic move that could open up new opportunities for growth and cooperation while bolstering its position on the international stage.

As the BRICS Summit draws near, the meeting between Minister Attaf and the diplomatic representatives marks a significant milestone in Algeria’s quest to become a member of this influential alliance. With their sights set on advancing shared objectives, Algeria is determined to play a vital role in shaping the future of international relations and contributing to the collective efforts towards global development and prosperity.
