Algerian FM Lamamra flies to Addis Ababa for 42nd session of African Union’s Executive Council

ALGIERS- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra headed to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to lead Algeria’s delegation to the 42nd session of the African Union’s Executive Council, which will be held at the level of foreign ministers on Wednesday and Thursday, said a statement issued by the ministry.
The African Union’s Executive Council, held as part of the preparation for the 36th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union under the slogan “Accelerating the pace of materializing the African Continental Free Trade Area,” will discuss a number of key topics and issues of priority in the African arena, most notably the Annual Report of the African Union and its organs, acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)’s implementation, the social and humanitarian situation on the continent, and reports compiled by the ministerial committees affiliated to the AU’s Executive Council, added the statement.
On the sidelines of his visit, Mr. Lamamra held meetings with a number of African foreign ministers, including the Foreign Minister of Senegal, who presides over the current session of the Executive Council, and the foreign ministers of Libya, the Republic of the Congo, Togo, Angola, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Egypt, Kenya, Mauritania, Somalia, and Sierra Leone, along with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and many other high-ranking officials of the Commission. These meetings focused on the items on the agenda of the current session, the aspects of cooperation and means of bolstering bilateral relations, as well as the exchange of viewpoints on issues of common interest for the continent.
