Algerian Foreign Minister Attaf Calls for Urgent International Action at the United Nations

ALGIERS- In a passionate address to the United Nations General Assembly, the Algerian Foreign Minister, Attaf, underscored the critical need for a renewed commitment to the peace process and an end to the historical injustices faced by the Palestinian people. Attaf highlighted the lack of progress and genuine initiatives in recent years, emphasizing that an entire generation has witnessed minimal international action to address their legitimate aspirations for freedom, the end of occupation, the enjoyment of their rights, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
“Hasn’t the time come to address this situation that contradicts the values and principles of our organization?” Attaf questioned. “Isn’t it time to end this historical injustice against a people who have patiently endured the oppression of an occupying force that remains defiant and stubborn? Isn’t it time to launch an international effort for peace, reigniting the flame of hope within the Palestinian people and ensuring the unwavering pursuit of their national rights, which are non-negotiable, non-expiring, and non-disposable?”
The Foreign Minister stressed the urgent and compelling need to halt the unjust Zionist aggression in Gaza, provide humanitarian relief to the Palestinian people, and ensure international protection for them. He called for a collective effort involving all relevant international stakeholders to work towards building a lasting, just, and sustainable peace in the Middle East.
Attaf also urged the United Nations General Assembly to remain steadfast in its commitment to preserving the legal foundations of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state. Simultaneously, he reiterated Algeria’s call to grant full UN membership to Palestine, thereby affording it a prominent platform among nations to amplify its voice and advocate for its priorities. This decisive step counters attempts to distort and dilute the Palestinian cause, which is intended to remain alive and unyielding.
