Algiers, Algeria | November 13th, 2024 — The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has categorically denied statements falsely attributed to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during the recent Arab-Islamic Summit held in Riyadh. In an official communiqué, the Ministry criticized a private media outlet for inaccurately blending commentary with official declarations, leading to the dissemination of baseless claims.

No Call for a 1973 Arab Oil Embargo Redux

The Ministry clarified that Algeria’s statement at the Riyadh Summit neither called for nor implied a revival of the 1973 Arab oil embargo. “The written and audiovisual records of Algeria’s declaration at the Summit confirm that no such proposal was made under any circumstances,” the communiqué emphasized.

Instead, Algeria’s position focused on urging the imposition of comprehensive sanctions—political, diplomatic, economic, and military—on the Zionist entity. These measures, the Ministry stated, are justified by the ongoing aggression, genocide, and war crimes committed against Gaza and the wider region.

A Call for Justice, Not Misrepresentation

The Ministry underscored that Algeria’s stance, as presented at the Summit, was a call for accountability for crimes against humanity. “A mere reading of Algeria’s declaration would suffice to dispel the misinterpretation circulated by the private media outlet,” it asserted.
