Algerian Foreign Ministry Summons French Ambassador Over Intelligence Activities Aimed at Destabilizing the Nation

Algiers, Algeria | December 15th, 2024 — Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the French Ambassador to Algeria, Stéphane Romatet, to formally protest against the repeated provocations and interference by French intelligence services. This significant diplomatic step reflects Algeria’s firm stance in safeguarding its sovereignty against external actions deemed hostile.

The summoning follows revelations in an investigative documentary aired by Algerian state television, titled “Failure of the Conspiracy: Algeria’s Hawks Triumph.” The program exposed a plan by France’s Directorate-General for External Security (DGSE) to destabilize Algeria through covert recruitment efforts targeting individuals of Algerian descent. The documentary highlighted how a young Algerian, raised abroad, resisted such attempts, underscoring national unity against adversarial plots.

During the meeting, Algerian officials conveyed their unambiguous rejection of the “persistent and deliberate attempts to undermine Algeria’s sovereignty.” They also issued a stern warning to French authorities, stating that such actions would not go unanswered.

A senior source told El Moudjahid newspaper, “The Algerian government holds France accountable for halting these hostile behaviors. Should these provocations persist, Algeria reserves the right to respond decisively and proportionally.”

The Ministry expressed concern over escalating activities attributed to the DGSE, which target Algeria’s institutions and interests. It further criticized the broader influence of certain French political factions and pressure groups whose actions are perceived as detrimental to Algerian-French relations.
