Algerian Government Extends Condolences Following the Passing of Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter

Algiers, Algeria | December 30th, 2024 — The Algerian government extended its condolences on Monday following the passing of Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States. Minister of Communication, Mohamed Meziane, accompanied by Secretary of State for African Affairs, Selma Bakhta Mansouri, visited the U.S. Embassy in Algiers to sign the condolence book on behalf of the Algerian government.

In the message, Minister Meziane expressed Algeria’s condolences to the American people and the family of the late President, describing him as “a prominent figure dedicated to humanitarian values and peace.”

The condolence note emphasized “Carter’s notable efforts in fostering global harmony, both during his presidency and through his initiatives with the Carter Center”. It also highlighted his role in strengthening U.S.-Algerian relations, particularly recalling his appreciation for Algeria’s mediation during the 1981 release of American hostages in Iran.
