Algerian Housing Project Wins Award from Arab Ministers of Housing and Urban Development Council

Algiers, Algeria | December 17th, 2024 — In a remarkable achievement, an Algerian housing project was awarded the Arab Ministers of Housing and Urban Development Council’s 2024 award for its excellence in preserving Arab and Islamic architectural heritage. The award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to maintaining and developing traditional architectural principles, was presented during the 8th Arab Housing Conference, held at the International Conference Center in Algiers.
The winning project, which consists of 169 social housing units located in the coastal city of Tipaza, was recognized for its design that integrates modern housing needs with deep respect for Arab-Islamic architectural identity. This distinction comes as part of the council’s annual award competition, which this year focused on the theme “Arab Housing with Identity.”
The award aims to highlight the importance of preserving and enriching the architectural and cultural heritage of the Arab and Islamic world. It encourages architects, engineers, and technicians across the Arab world to explore creative solutions inspired by the rich traditions of Arab-Islamic architecture. The initiative also seeks to inspire young generations to engage with and innovate upon the principles of Arab-Islamic urbanism and architecture, ensuring these traditions remain a vibrant part of the future.
The second prize in the competition was awarded to a housing project in the Tal al-Aqarib area of Cairo, Egypt, while the third prize was shared between two projects from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
This accolade further underscores Algeria’s commitment to blending modern housing development with a strong sense of cultural and historical preservation, positioning the country as a leading force in architectural innovation in the Arab world.
