ALGIERS- In a thought-provoking episode of his show “Question Mark” on Dzair Tube, Algerian journalist Belkacem Djir ignited a crucial dialogue on the Arab world’s response to the ongoing atrocities in Palestine. With piercing questions and poignant observations, Djir shed light on the Arab indifference towards the plight of the Palestinian people, urging for a collective awakening and decisive action.

Djir began by questioning the Arab nations’ reluctance to extend a helping hand to Palestinians amidst their suffering. He emphasized the stark contrast between the desperate need for humanitarian aid in Gaza and the closure of the Rafah border crossing, symbolizing Arab inaction in the face of humanitarian crisis.

He said, “In the midst of the ongoing war in Gaza, one cannot help but wonder: Why do Arab nations continue to turn a blind eye to the plight of the Palestinian people? Is it conceivable that they would watch as Palestinians suffer and perish, without extending a helping hand? …. The closure of the Rafah border crossing stands as a symbol of Arab inaction. Despite the desperate need for humanitarian aid in Gaza, Arab nations have failed to pressure for the opening of this vital lifeline.”

The journalist’s criticism extended to Arab leaders, whose deafening silence on the Palestinian issue spoke volumes. Djir condemned the hypocrisy of Arab rulers who flaunt their Western-made military attire while flying over Gaza in American planes under Zionist influence. He portrayed a stark image of opulence amidst poverty, highlighting the disconnect between Arab leadership and the plight of the Palestinian people.

“It is a spectacle of shame to witness an Arab ruler, clad in military attire manufactured in the West more precisely in the UK, flying over Gaza in American planes under the Zionist license, tossing scraps of food from his palace tables to the starving Palestinians below. This grotesque display of ostentation amidst poverty epitomizes the cowardice, betrayal, and disdain for the Palestinian people,” he lamented.

Djir underscored the Arab world’s collective failure to address Palestinian suffering, emphasizing the gravity of the situation as Muslims worldwide observe Ramadan. He lamented the disparity between prayers offered during Ramadan and the harsh reality of Palestinians in Gaza facing starvation and deprivation.

He noted, “As the Islamic world observes Ramadan, Palestinians in Gaza face the harshest of realities. It is not just another Ramadan for them; it is a month of unparalleled suffering, where prayers and fasting are juxtaposed with the agony of hunger… With over two billion Muslims worldwide, the inability to alleviate Palestinian suffering through tangible actions is a stark reminder of our collective failure.”

Echoing the words of the past, reminiscent of Umar bin Abdul Aziz’s response to bird starvation, today’s reality is even graver. The fear of birds perishing in Muslim lands has been replaced by the grim reality of Muslims dying of hunger in Palestine.

Drawing parallels to these historical references, Djir emphasized the urgency for action and solidarity. He called upon Arab nations and the global Muslim community to break the silence and actively engage in alleviating Palestinian suffering. Djir stressed that the Palestinian issue transcends geographical boundaries; it is a test of humanity and a moral imperative for justice.
