ALGIERS- Algerian journalist Farid Maataoui praised the remarkable efforts of the president of the Algerian Football Federation, Walid Sadi, in ensuring the best possible conditions for the national team during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast. Maataoui commended Sadi’s strategic decisions, calling them a masterstroke in every detail.
In a recent interview on El Watania channel, Maataoui emphasized the significance of the decision to move the Algerian team out of the shared accommodation provided by the tournament organizers. Describing it as a well-thought-out move, he explained that having all participating teams in a single village with shared facilities, where each accommodation unit housed eight players, posed challenges. Furthermore, the teams were not allowed to bring their own chefs, obliging them to consume the provided meals.
Maataoui highlighted the additional challenge of the meals being prepared outside the village and brought in on trucks, raising concerns about the safety and quality of the food for the players. In response to these challenges, Sadi, in consultation with the national coach, made the crucial decision to book a private hotel for the national team, breaking away from the shared village.
The move, however, faced its own set of challenges, as Sadi had to negotiate with the hotel owners, investing a considerable sum to enhance logistical aspects. Maataoui emphasized the ongoing efforts to improve the hotel’s facilities to meet the team’s needs.
Addressing the conditions in the host city Bouaké, Maataoui praised the quality of the pitch at the Bouaké Stadium, considering it the best among all the venues hosting the AFCON. He compared the current situation to the previous tournament where the team faced difficulties, stating that now Algeria had a superior playing surface in Bouake compared to the conditions in Ivory Coast.
Maataoui concluded by highlighting the efforts made by the Algerian Football Federation, even securing the training ground with added fencing—a notable contrast to other training facilities in Ivory Coast, which remain open to the public and fans.
In summary, Sadi’s proactive decisions and strategic measures have not only provided the Algerian national team with optimal conditions but also showcased the Federation’s commitment to ensuring the team’s success and comfort during the AFCON in Ivory Coast.
