Algerian FM Attaf Attends AU Executive Council Meeting in Accra

Algiers, Algeria | July 17th, 2024 — Ahmed Attaf, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, arrived in Accra, Ghana, on Wednesday afternoon to attend the 45th session of the African Union’s Executive Council. This participation, under the directive of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, highlights Algeria’s steadfast dedication to regional diplomacy and continental collaboration.

The session, slated for July 18th and 19th, will be followed by the 6th Summit of Coordination between the AU, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and Regional Mechanisms on July 21st, according to a statement from the Ministry.

Key items on the agenda for the ministerial session include financial and administrative matters concerning the AU’s internal management, partnerships with international stakeholders, the AU’s engagement with the G20, advancements in the Common African Action agenda, and preparations for forthcoming continental and international events.

In addition to participating in these discussions, Minister Attaf will engage in bilateral meetings with various African counterparts on the sidelines of the ministerial sessions. These interactions aim to promote dialogue and cooperation among AU member states, further solidifying Algeria’s active role in shaping African Union policies and fostering regional integration and collective action across the continent.
