ALGIERS- Algerian Minister of Commerce, Mr. Tayeb Zitouni, engaged in discussions on Saturday with the Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Mr. Wamkele Mene, in Algiers.

As outlined in an official statement by the ministry, Minister Zitouni affirmed that “the specific lists of tariff positions earmarked for tariff dismantling within the AfCFTA framework are now finalized.” These lists were meticulously crafted in collaboration with all relevant sectors in Algeria, underscoring the nation’s commitment to accelerating processes within this continental space. These efforts align with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing the encouragement of intra-African trade.

He acknowledged Algeria’s proactive role in expediting AfCFTA procedures, including its active participation in various African initiatives. Furthermore, he praised Algeria’s commitment to opening up the African market through the establishment of showrooms featuring Algerian products in Mauritania and Senegal. The country has also taken steps to enhance connectivity, with the inauguration of air and sea routes linking Algeria to several capitals across the continent.

This diplomatic meeting underscores Algeria’s dedication to advancing economic collaboration within the African continent. The finalized tariff positions signal a significant stride towards the realization of AfCFTA, emphasizing Algeria’s pivotal role in promoting regional economic integration and facilitating trade.
