Algiers, Algeria | February 7th, 2025 — In a swift and coordinated operation, the Algerian Naval Forces successfully rescued 15 irregular migrants adrift northeast of Boumerdès, reaffirming the nation’s vigilance in safeguarding human lives at sea. The migrants, including 14 Somali nationals and one individual from South Sudan, were in distress when intercepted by naval units operating in the Mediterranean waters near Dellys.

A Rapid and Effective Rescue Mission

Acting on intelligence reports and routine maritime surveillance, naval patrols swiftly mobilized to intercept the vessel in distress. The precarious state of the migrants, compounded by the risks of dehydration, hypothermia, and potential capsizing, necessitated an urgent intervention. The rescue underscores the critical role played by the Algerian Navy in addressing the rising challenges of irregular migration and maritime security.

Following the successful operation, the individuals were immediately provided with emergency medical assistance before being transported to Dellys Hospital in Boumerdès for further care and assessment. The medical teams ensured that all rescued individuals received the necessary attention, particularly in light of their prolonged exposure to harsh maritime conditions.
