Algiers, Algeria | February 10th, 2025 —The Algerian Naval Forces successfully saved 32 irregular migrants drifting in perilous waters two nautical miles north of Douaouda, Tipaza. The rescue, carried out by the Coast Guard units, underscores Algeria’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding human lives at sea amidst the escalating risks of illegal migration.
According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense, the National Center for Maritime Surveillance and Rescue received an emergency alert on February 8, 2025, at precisely 07:28 AM. The distress signal indicated that a migrant boat was in a critical situation, at the mercy of strong currents and drifting uncontrollably.
Responding with swift precision, units from the Regional Coast Guard Groups of Algiers and Cherchell were immediately mobilized. The rescue teams successfully extracted all 32 individuals, who were identified as migrants of various African nationalities. Following the rescue, the survivors were transported to the port of Cherchell, where they received urgent medical attention from health authorities.
