Algerian Parliament Speaker Boughali Advocates Algeria’s Efforts to Activate ICJ Decision on Palestine

ALGIERS- The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (APN) and the incumbent President of the Union of Parliaments of OIC Member States (UPCI), Mr. Brahim Boughali, emphasized Algeria’s endeavors, within its non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council, to activate the International Court of Justice (ICJ) decision regarding Palestine during a meeting held in Constantine on Thursday.
Addressing the 50th Executive Committee meeting of the Union of Parliaments of OIC Member States (UPCI) at the Marriott Hotel, in the presence of UPCI Secretary-General Mr. Mohamed Khouraichi Niass and the Permanent Committee on Economic and Environmental Affairs, Mr. Boughali underscored the importance of concerted efforts to hold Zionist war criminals accountable before international justice and put an end to the policy of double standards and impunity.
In the same context, Speaker Boughali stressed the necessity of compelling the Zionist entity to adhere to international legitimacy, abide by the interim measures imposed on the Zionist occupation for its attacks against the Palestinian people, cease its barbaric war immediately, and unconditionally allow aid into the entire Gaza Strip.
Expressing great satisfaction with the International Court of Justice’s decision following South Africa’s complaint against the Zionist entity for genocidal crimes against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, Mr. Boughali hailed this historic initiative as a significant achievement for the Palestinian cause and all just causes. He extended his gratitude to the South African government and people for their courageous and noble stance, which marks the first time the Zionist occupier has been held accountable and prosecuted internationally for its crimes against Palestinians.
Mr. Boughali further condemned the horrifying situation in the Gaza Strip, describing it as a global and genocidal war that poses a grave threat to the noble principles and values upon which the United Nations was founded, as well as to the rules of international humanitarian law, particularly in light of overt Western support and blatant bias in favor of the Zionist entity.
Highlighting the dire plight of the defenseless Palestinian people as a shameful stain on humanity, Mr. Boughali underscored the failure of international institutions to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities towards this oppressed and massacred people on a daily basis.
The first session of the Executive Committee meeting and the economic commission was slated to validate the agenda and action plan of the 50th Executive Committee meeting and monitor the implementation of resolutions and recommendations from the 17th UPCI Conference held in Algiers in January 2023. The second session would focus on adopting the final report and the “Algiers Declaration” from the Executive Committee of the Union, to be presented to the media.
The meeting’s opening, attended by 16 countries and 41 members, commenced with the recitation of the Fatiha from the Holy Quran in tribute to the Palestinian victims of relentless attacks by the Zionist entity in Gaza.
