Algerian Parliament Speaker Pays Respects at Funeral of Iranian President Ebrahim Raïssi

Algiers, Algeria | May 22, 2024 — In a demonstration of solidarity and diplomatic reverence, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune entrusted Mr. Brahim Boughali, the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (APN), with representing Algeria at the funeral of the late President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raïssi, and his accompanying delegation. A statement issued by the lower house of Parliament on Wednesday affirmed Mr. Boughali’s attendance at the solemn event.
Mr. Boughali’s journey to Tehran for the funeral proceedings was marked by a dignified solemnity as he arrived at Tehran’s International Airport. He was received by Mr. Abolfazl Amouei, President of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, alongside the Algerian Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Ali Arroudj.

Accompanying the Speaker of the APN were Mr. Laïd Rebiga, the Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, Mr. Moussa Kherfi, Vice-Speaker of the APN and President of Algeria-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group, and Mr. Mohamed Amroune, President of the Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Algerian Community Abroad Committee in the Council of the Nation.
The presence of this delegation underscores Algeria’s unwavering commitment to fostering strong diplomatic ties and showcasing solidarity with nations during moments of mourning. The funeral of President Raisi signifies not only a loss for Iran but also resonates with the entire Muslim Ummah and freedom fighters worldwide.

Algeria Mourns Loss of Iranian Leader in Tragic Helicopter Crash
Earlier, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune extended heartfelt condolences to Mohammad Mokhber, Iran’s interim president, following the tragic passing of Iranian President Ebrahim Raïssi on Sunday.
Expressing deep concern over the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of President Raïssi and several members of the Iranian delegation, President Tebboune conveyed Algeria’s solidarity with the political leaders, government, and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In a letter shared on the Presidency’s official Facebook page, President Tebboune paid tribute to the late leader and expressed the Algerian people’s profound sorrow and sympathy. “The Algerian people share in the grief of the Iranian people as we mourn the loss of a true brother and partner. I have personally shared fraternal and supportive contacts between our two countries, in addition to our joint support for just causes embraced by our two peoples,” he added.
