Algiers, January 3, 2024 – The Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) released its operational report for the year 2023, highlighting significant achievements in the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, and organized crime.
In the realm of counter-terrorism efforts, the ANP successfully neutralized 16 terrorists and 417 individuals providing support to terrorist groups, recovering a substantial quantity of weapons in the process.
“The Armed Forces have achieved the neutralization of 16 terrorists, 417 supporters of terrorist groups, the discovery and destruction of 37 hideouts serving as shelters for terrorists, as well as the recovery of 136 firearms, 169 shells, 95 various types of bombs, and large quantities of ammunition,” stated the Ministry of National Defense (MDN) in its press release.
As part of the fight against organized crime, the ANP arrested 2,723 drug traffickers, thwarted the attempted smuggling of 573 quintals of processed cannabis from the Moroccan borders, and seized 86,345 kilograms of cocaine along with 11,625,283 psychotropic tablets.
Additionally, the ANP arrested 15,150 individuals and confiscated 4,433 jackhammers, 8,030 generators, 209 metal detectors, 1,353 vehicles, 585.6 tonnes of a mixture of stone and raw gold, 612 shotguns, 2,219,518 liters of fuel, 262.2 tonnes of tobacco, and 4,445 tonnes of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation. These operations took place across the national territory.
The report also highlighted that combined ANP detachments apprehended 14,814 illegal immigrants of various nationalities throughout the country.
The comprehensive success in these operations underscores the ANP’s commitment to maintaining national security, combating terrorism, and curbing transnational criminal activities. The significant achievements in 2023 demonstrate the effectiveness of the ANP’s strategies and its dedication to preserving peace and stability in Algeria.
