Algerian People’s National Army Releases Operational Report: Success in Counterterrorism, Anti-Drug Operations, and More

ALGIERS- The Algerian Ministry of National Defense (MDN) provided a comprehensive operational report on Wednesday, summarizing the activities of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) during the week of November 15 to November 21.
In the ongoing fight against terrorism, ANP detachments executed successful operations resulting in the apprehension of 8 individuals providing support to terrorist groups. Additionally, the forces discovered 2 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), showcasing the continuous efforts to neutralize terrorist threats within the country.
The report also highlighted ANP’s commitment to combating organized crime. Notably, 50 drug traffickers were intercepted, thwarting attempts to smuggle 3 quintals and 81 kilograms of processed cannabis from the borders with Morocco. Furthermore, the ANP seized 4,376 kilograms of cocaine and 240,245 psychotropic tablets, emphasizing the comprehensive approach to tackling drug-related crimes.
In various regions, including Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, In Salah el Djanet, ANP conducted operations leading to the arrest of 158 individuals. The seized items included 38 vehicles, 224 generators, 84 jackhammers, 8 metal detectors, and 130 quintals of a mixture of stones and raw gold. Explosives, detonation tools, and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations were also confiscated.
Addressing smuggling concerns, ANP successfully apprehended 15 individuals involved in smuggling activities. The seized items comprised 6 shotguns, 29,634 liters of fuel, 31 tons of food intended for smuggling, and 16 quintals of tobacco. Additionally, 21,389 units of various beverages were confiscated in separate operations across the national territory.
The report also touched upon efforts to address illegal immigration. The Coast Guard rescued 449 individuals aboard artisanal vessels, emphasizing the commitment to maritime security. Simultaneously, 333 undocumented immigrants of various nationalities were arrested across the country, highlighting the multifaceted approach to maintaining border integrity and national security.
