Algerian Pharmaceutical Sector Thrives: Minister Aoun Reports Meeting 68% of Market Demand

ALGIERS- Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, announced that overcoming impediments for private investors in the pharmaceutical sector has resulted in meeting approximately 68% of the market’s demand for medicines.
During a parliamentary session to address oral questions, Aoun revealed that his ministry successfully processed 90% of the 585 investment files, which had been stagnant for three months. Emphasizing his commitment to facilitating investments, Aoun shared that the sector has seen the launch of six factories dedicated to producing anti-cancer drugs, with some already entering production a month ago.
Highlighting the intricacies of producing anti-cancer drugs, Aoun stressed the necessity of employing specialized chemicals and stringent safety measures to protect workers’ health. He acknowledged that initiating production in these factories took time due to the meticulous precautions required.
Aoun underscored the government’s focus on the Saidal complex, aiming to enhance its capabilities and ensure the supply of quality medicines at affordable prices in the Algerian market.
The minister also emphasized the state’s keen interest in the private sector, with 169 private factories complementing the four Saidal complex facilities. He noted that only 15 investment files are currently under consideration, all submitted within the past month, indicating a continuous commitment to supporting private initiatives in the pharmaceutical domain
