Algiers, Algeria | June 1st, 2024 — Two Algerian photographs have made it into the Top 10 of the international photo contest “WSIS Photo Contest 2024”. The jury of the latest edition of the World Summit on the Information Society’s photo contest has made its selection, establishing the final ranking of the ten best images of the year. In this regard, two Algerian photographs have made it into the Top 10 of the international photo contest “WSIS Photo Contest 2024”.
The Ministry of Post, Telecommunications, Technologies, and Digital Technology announced the news on Friday, May 31st. Through a statement published on its Facebook page, the ministerial department headed by Karim Bibi Triki specified that this contest invites participants from around the world to submit photographs.
The conditions required to participate in this international contest were emphasized. The submitted photos should illustrate how information and communication technologies (ICTs) play an empowering role in achieving sustainable development goals.

Furthermore, the same statement indicated that two Algerian photographs by Algerian photographer Yahia Talbi from the wilaya of Béni Abbès are among the top ten in the WSIS contest.
The statement added that the two Algerian photographs possess “strong symbolism”. The first, taken in Timoudi in southern Algeria, shows how different generations adapt to modern means of communication. It depicts an elderly woman, tearfully moved by a mixture of joy and nostalgia, making a call with her granddaughter whom she has not seen for several months.
Moreover, the second photograph, taken in Tinerkouk in southern Algeria, documents “the intimate relationship between a man and his camel while he communicates with his friends via a video call”. This illustrates how ICTs have reduced distances between them.
