Algiers, Algeria | June 14th, 2024 — In a series of late-night operations conducted by the police force of the Algiers province, a total of 200 individuals were apprehended from various neighborhoods of the capital city. The operations, aimed at curbing crime and ensuring public safety, targeted areas where criminal activities were suspected to be prevalent.

According to official reports from the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN), more than 700 individuals were under surveillance leading up to the operation. The intensive efforts resulted in the arrest of 200 suspects involved in over 100 criminal cases. Among the offenses documented were 87 cases related to drug possession and trafficking of various narcotics.

In addition to drug-related offenses, the police also recorded twelve cases involving the possession of bladed weapons and incidents of public disturbance.

Twenty individuals among those arrested are now subject to further judicial investigation, as stated by official sources. During the operations, law enforcement officers conducted checks on 464 vehicles and 277 motorcycles, resulting in the issuance of 132 traffic violations.

The operations also yielded significant seizures of illicit substances and weapons, including 249 psychotropic pills, weighing 19.53 grams of narcotics, 2 fireworks, and 13 prohibited bladed weapons of various types and sizes. All seized items were submitted to relevant judicial authorities as evidence.

The DGSN emphasized that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in Algiers and to combat the illicit activities that pose a threat to public safety.
