Algerian Police Delegation Engages in Bilateral Cooperation with New York’s Anti-Drug Department

Algiers- Algeria, May 16, 2024 – In a notable endeavor to bolster international efforts against drug trafficking, Mr. Ali Badaoui, the Director General of National Security (DGSN), spearheaded a delegation to convene with the Chief of New York’s Anti-Drug Department. This meeting, geared towards fostering bilateral collaboration, transpired within the framework of Mr. Badaoui’s official visit to the United States of America (USA).
The delegation, comprised of officials from the DGSN, actively engaged in dialogues with their counterparts from the Anti-Drug Department to explore avenues for joint action against the multifaceted challenges entailed in drug control. Emphasizing the significance of cooperation, both parties scrutinized specialized units within the DGSN tasked with addressing the intricacies of combating narcotics, spanning synthetic drugs and cannabis resin.
Throughout the visit, the delegation availed itself of the opportunity to tour various departments of the chemical analysis laboratory for narcotics under the purview of the Anti-Drug Department. Proficient elucidations on equipment and chemical analysis processes offered invaluable insights into the nuances of narcotics detection and investigation, laying the groundwork for prospective collaboration in this pivotal domain.
In addition to engagements with the Anti-Drug Department, the DGSN delegation paid a visit to the headquarters of the New York Police Department (NYPD). Here, discussions centered on the exchange of experiences and perspectives pertaining to security challenges confronted by law enforcement agencies in both nations. Areas of mutual interest encompassed urban security, public safety, tunnel transportation, and the harmonization of security measures for major events.
Furthermore, the itinerary of the Algerian delegation encompassed visits to border police services (PAF) situated between the USA and Canada. Interactions with border officials facilitated an exchange of best practices in border control, covering aspects, such as personnel, vehicle, and cargo inspections. Contemporary information exchange mechanisms were also explored to augment border security cooperation between Algeria and the USA.
