Algerian Premier Larbaoui Meets with Vice President of Libyan Presidential Council

Algiers- Algeria, May 5, 2024 – Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui engaged in discussions on Sunday in Banjul, Gambia, with the Vice President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mr. Moussa Al-Kouni, . The meeting, which addressed bilateral relations and the evolving situation in Libya, underscored Algeria’s commitment to stability and sovereignty in its neighboring nation.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the discussions, which took place on the sidelines of the 15th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), centered on ongoing efforts towards a political solution in Libya, aiming to ensure its unity, sovereignty, and fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people for peace and stability. As the representative of the President of the Republic, Prime Minister Larbaoui reiterated Algeria’s support for all initiatives aimed at achieving a political solution in Libya. He emphasized the need to protect Libya from the risks of increasing foreign interference.

“The President of the Republic has called for continued efforts to spare Libya from the risk of foreign interference, which is increasingly pronounced,” the statement emphasized.

The meeting also acknowledged the positive outcomes of the tripartite gathering held on April 22 in Tunis, which included President Tebboune, his Tunisian counterpart, and the Libyan Presidential Council President. This meeting highlighted the shared commitment to fostering stability and peace in the region.

The discussions between Prime Minister Larbaoui and Vice President Al-Kouni reaffirmed the strong ties between Algeria and Libya and highlighted Algeria’s proactive role in facilitating dialogue and stability in the region.

Algeria has consistently advocated for a political solution in Libya, urging all parties to engage constructively in the UN-led peace process. The country’s diplomatic efforts have been crucial in bringing together key stakeholders to discuss and resolve the complex issues facing Libya.
