Kampala, Uganda – January 19, 2024- President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria reaffirmed the country’s commitments during the opening session of the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit held in Kampala, Uganda, today. The summit is taking place amid a backdrop of global challenges, and Tebboune, represented by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, conveyed Algeria’s dedication to just causes and dialogue promotion.
President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda was congratulated by President Tebboune for being elected as the President of the 19th NAM Summit. In his address, Tebboune highlighted Algeria’s endeavors during its tenure on the United Nations Security Council, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to defending just causes globally and fostering diplomatic dialogue.
The President reiterated Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and called for holding the colonial entity accountable for its crimes against the Palestinian people. Tebboune emphasized, “The path of the Non-Aligned Movement obliges us to support the Sahrawi cause and the right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination.”
Algeria’s diplomatic stance underscores its commitment to the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, which advocates for countries to maintain their independence and avoid alignment with any major power blocs. The call for solidarity with the Sahrawi cause aligns with NAM’s emphasis on supporting self-determination and decolonization efforts worldwide.
The 19th NAM Summit serves as a platform for leaders from member countries to discuss and address global challenges, with a focus on promoting peace, justice, and sovereignty. President Tebboune’s message reinforces Algeria’s active role in championing these principles within the international community.
